Unlike many of the stories you hear about those after whom scholarships are named, John J. Crowder, Fenwick class of 1981’s story was not the stuff of a storybook. John was a guy with a troubled soul, a huge and loyal heart, and an intellect to match. However it was that troubled soul that won for many years after leaving Fenwick. Just as things seemed to be picking up for John he was murdered protecting the woman to whom he was engaged.
Ten years ago a few of us got together and we wanted to do something special in John’s memory, something that we could all remember him by and something that would benefit other children, giving someone the chance who deserved a great Fenwick education but whose family could not financially afford it.
